Incentive varies based on part-time or full-time enrollment. Make sure to register for Spring 2023 by January 17th to qualify for your $500 (part-time) or $1,000 (full-time) incentive.

The UTRGV Strive Incentive is a one-time $500 (part-time) or $1,000 (full-time) award for undergraduate New Transfer Students and Readmission Students (students seeking to complete their degree after taking more than a year-long break from courses). 

This is not a loan and will not need to be repaid.

Who’s eligible? 

ALL students who are enrolled by May 1, 2022 for Summer 2022 or Fall 2022. 

How many courses do I need to be enrolled in? 

A minimum of one course.

What’s the deadline? 

The deadline to enroll is May 1, 2022.  

However, registration starts sooner than that:

Summer 2022

Graduates students – February 25

Undergraduate students – February 28


Fall 2022

Graduates students – March 25

Undergraduate students – March 28

Who can I contact if I need help selecting my classes?

If you are a current UTRGV student (excluding MSA and Dual Credit),  schedule an appointment with an academic advisor by clicking on the EAB Navigate Icon at my.UTRGV.edu and selecting an appointment time.  If you are a new entering freshman or a new transfer student, advising and registration will take place during your New Student Orientation.  If you have questions about Academic Advising, contact 956-665-7120.  For Graduate students, please contact your program coordinator.

Is this incentive considered a loan? 

No, this incentive is not considered a loan, and does not require repayment. 

If I enroll for Summer and Fall, do I get $300? 

No, you will receive a one-time payment of $150 for whichever semester you’re enrolled in first. 

When will I receive my $150? 

Students who are enrolled by May 1 will receive $150 by the end of May. The $150 disbursement will be deposited to your bank account or sent as a check by mail. 

Don't have your direct deposit set-up? It's the fastest way to get your funds! If direct deposit is not an option, update your mailing address via ASSIST (https://my.utrgv.edu/). This ensures that your funds are delivered to you! 

Please note:  Your paper check must be cashed within 30 days — otherwise it will expire and cannot be reissued.

Do I need to apply to receive the Early Registration Incentive?

No application is required. UTRGV will identify students who meet the enrollment and eligibility criteria.

Can I be enrolled in a certification program to qualify?

Yes, students enrolled in at least one course, regardless of program of study, will qualify.

What if I have a hold and can’t register by May 1?

All holds must be cleared and you must register by May 1 to qualify.

Are there any exceptions to the May 1 deadline?

Unfortunately, there will be no exceptions to the May 1 deadline.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring your Student ID (or driver's license) and Vaccine Card.


What if I got my 1st and 2nd dose somewhere else?

No problem! You can get your booster shot/3rd dose with UTRGV. Just bring your ID and Vaccine Card.


What if I got Johnson & Johnson?

According to the CDC’s latest recommendations, eligible individuals may now “mix and match” or choose which vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson) they receive as a booster dose. Please note that UT Health RGV is not currently administering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. However, people aged 18+ who initially got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine can get a booster dose of either Pfizer or Moderna at least two months after their initial shot.


Mix and Match

According to CDC recommendations, individuals can mix and match  their booster shot/3rd dose.

If you received a vaccine other than Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson, you are eligible to receive your booster shot/3rd dose at a UT Health RGV vaccination site. Please bring your ID and Vaccine Card.

What exactly is UTRGV Strive Incentive?
  • UTRGV STRIVE INCENTIVE

  • UTRGV Strive Incentive is a one-time $500 or $1,000 award for New Transfer Students and Readmission Students (students seeking to complete their degree after taking more than a year-long break from courses). This is not a loan and will not need to be repaid.

Who is eligible for this award?

New Transfer Students or Readmission Students starting in Spring 2023 who met the enrollment criteria. Graduate Students are NOT eligible for this award..

How many hours do I need to enroll to qualify?

New Transfer or Readmission Students for Spring 2023 that enroll in one to eleven hours will be eligible for a one-time $500 award. Students that enroll for twelve or more hours are eligible for a one-time $1,000 award..

Do I need to enroll for classes by a certain date in order to qualify?

Yes. Spring 2023: New Transfer or Readmission Students must be enrolled by January 17th.

How will I receive this award?
Eligible students meeting the eligibility criteria will have the award offered in their financial aid package. To accept your award:
  • 1. Log in to: https://my.utrgv.edu (with your username and password)
  • 2. Click - ASSIST under My Applications
  • 3. Click - Financial Aid from the menu
  • 4. Select - Award Year 2022-2023 from the dropdown menu 
  • 5. Click - Award Offer
  • 6. Click - Accept from the Take Action drop down menu
  • 7. Click - Submit
  • 8. After carefully reading the Terms and Conditions click the radio box to acknowledge
  • 9. Final Step - Click Accept Award
When will I receive my award?
New Transfer and Readmission Students who have accepted the award and meet the eligibility criteria will have the award applied prior to the Spring 2023 tuition due date.
Do I need to apply for financial aid (FAFSA or TASFA) in order to be eligible for this award?
New Transfer and Readmission Students are highly encouraged to complete their FAFSA or TAFSA, but it is not required to receive this one-time financial award.
How is a year-long break from classes defined?
A year-long break from classes is defined by students taking a break for at least two consecutive terms (example: Fall & Spring or Spring and Fall). This type of break requires students to reapply to UTRGV.
Can my $1,000 Strive Incentive award be less than $1,000?
Yes, the award amount can be less than $1,000 based on other need-based financial aid awards. The award amount will also change depending on the number of hours and semesters enrolled.
