What exactly is the SUMMER INCENTIVE?
  • UTRGV SUMMER INCENTIVE

  • Students who are eligible for SUMMER INCENTIVE (see below for eligibility criteria) will receive up to $500 applied toward tuition and mandatory fees, after current Federal and State aid (like Federal Summer Pell Grant and Summer Boost), scholarships (like Graduate Select Scholarsip), and other gift aid are applied. SUMMER INCENTIVE is posted directly on the student’s account.

Is SUMMER INCENTIVE considered a loan?

No, the SUMMER INCENTIVE is not considered a loan, and does not require repayment.

What costs are covered by the SUMMER INCENTIVE?

Up to $500 of tuition and mandatory fees.

Does SUMMER INCENTIVE cover mandatory fees?

Yes, mandatory fees are covered by SUMMER INCENTIVE.

Who is eligible for SUMMER INCENTIVE?
ALL students — New and continuing undergraduate, graduate, transfer, and transient (non-UTRGV students), including international students, and students in Accelerated Online Programs who meet the enrollment criteria are eligible for the SUMMER INCENTIVE.
Will the award be automatically applied to my bill?
Eligible students meeting the enrollment deadline will have the award automatically applied.
When will I receive the SUMMER INCENTIVE?
Eligible students meeting the enrollment deadline will have the award applied prior to the summer tuition due date.
What are the required enrollment criteria to receive the SUMMER INCENTIVE?
Students must enroll in six hours in one summer session, or over the course of both summer sessions, by May 1, 2022.
Is there a cutoff date for enrollment to get the SUMMER INCENTIVE?
Yes, students must enroll by May 1, 2022.
If I am enrolled in all online courses for Summer 2022, do I qualify for the SUMMER INCENTIVE?

ALL courses, online and in-person, will qualify for the SUMMER INCENTIVE.

No, a financial-aid application is not required.

Do I need to have a financial aid application (FAFSA or TASFA) in order to receive the SUMMER INCENTIVE?

No, a financial aid application is not required.

Do I need to apply to receive the SUMMER INCENTIVE?

No application is required. UTRGV will identify students who meet the enrollment and eligibility criteria.

Is the SUMMER INCENTIVE awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis?

No, all students who meet the enrollment and eligibility criteria will receive an award.

How will SUMMER INCENTIVE be determined?

We know summer school is a commitment of your time and money. Every student who enrolls in six hours in one summer session or over the course of both summer sessions is eligible for up to $500 applied toward tuition and mandatory fees, after your current Federal and State aid (like Federal Summer Pell Grant and Summer Boost Grant), scholarships, and other gift aid is applied. Any remaining tuition and mandatory fees balance not covered by the above programs can be covered by the SUMMER INCENTIVE up to $500.

Can I get partial SUMMER INCENTIVE if I enroll in less than 6 hours?

No, there are no partial awards for less than six-hour enrollment. You must enroll in six hours in one summer session, or over the course of both summer sessions.

What if I need less than 6 hours to graduate in summer 2022?
An exception will be made if you have submitted a Summer 2022 graduation application and your DegreeWorks reflects less than six hours needed to graduate.
Do I get extra SUMMER INCENTIVE funds if I enroll in more than 6 hours?

The SUMMER INCENTIVE maximum award is $500.

If I am staff and qualify for eTAP, will I qualify for the $500 too?

If eTAP covers your full tuition and fees, then you will not qualify for the $500.

If I have graduated but still want to take some classes during the summer, will I be eligible for the SUMMER INCENTIVE?
Yes, all students who meet the enrollment and eligibility criteria can receive the SUMMER INCENTIVE, up to $500.
If I already paid for Summer, can I get a reimbursement if I meet the requirements?
Yes, you can still receive the SUMMER INCENTIVE. If you meet the enrollment requirements, the SUMMER INCENTIVE amount you are eligible to receive will be applied to your student account. Any credit created due to an out-of-pocket payment you already have made will be refunded to you.
Do hours in graduate certificate programs count towards the 6-hour requirement?
Yes, enrollment in courses towards graduate certificate programs will be counted towards the six-hour enrollment requirement.
How is UTRGV able to do this?
The SUMMER INCENTIVE program is being funded from UTRGV funds and is meant to make it easier for you to continue your education. UTRGV is committed to helping you meet your academic goals.
