Spring Relief is arriving early this year!

The seasons are changing. But our promise to help you reach your educational goals is evergreen.

That's why this coming Spring, we're sending all eligible students a total of $500 in cash grants.

Each eligible undergraduate and graduate student registered for Spring 2021 will receive not one, but two $250 cash grants

To be eligible, you must register and complete all financial aid requirements by Friday, December 18, 2020

Now, while a financial-aid application is not required, if you don't have a FAFSA or TASFA on file, you will be required to complete and submit an attestation to confirm your eligibility. Don't worry! We'll notify you via your UTRGV email if this applies to you (see FAQs).

If you took advantage of our Fall Relief Package, you know how good it feels to have some cash in hand when school starts.

Our committment to your safety and success is in full bloom.

Once we've determined you're qualified, you'll get $250 before classes start in January to get the things you need most.

Just like this Fall, these cash grants will be automatically distributed to students by check or direct deposit.

As a refresher, a cash grant is FREE money - NOT a loan. NO strings attached. NO need to pay it back. EVER.

And if you're not eligible to receive cash grants, you may still benefit from our Tuition Relief Program.

It's been a difficult year, and we want to make sure your focus stays where it's needed most: on completing your degree.

As always, please continue to follow our social media channels for important updates and announcements.

Now that's a Relief!

UTRGV Spring Relief Package & $500 Cash Grants
What exactly is the Spring Relief Package?
  • Cash Grants

  • For Spring 2021, enrolled students who are eligible for cash grants (see below for eligibility criteria) will receive $500 in cash grants, which are funded from either the CARES Act or UTRGV funds. $250 will be issued directly to the student prior to the first day of the Spring semester, and $250 will be issued starting the week of February 1st.

  • UTRGV Tuition Relief

  • For Spring 2021, enrolled students who are eligible for tuition relief (see below for eligibility criteria) will receive up to $250 applied toward tuition (not fees) after current Federal and State aid (like Pell Grant and Texas Grant), scholarships, and other gift aid are applied. Tuition relief will be posted directly on the student’s account (see below for how to accept).

Who is eligible for the Spring Relief Package?
  • Cash Grants

  • Continuing undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for Cash Grants for Spring 2021 so as long as they (1) did not graduate from high school in or after May 2020, (2) are not international students, (3) are not medical students, and (4) are not enrolled in fully online programs. To be eligible, students must enroll, and complete all financial aid requirements or return a signed Attestation (if applicable) by Friday, December 18, 2020. Students must meet certain financial aid eligibility requirements such as demonstrating Satisfactory Academic Progress, not being in default on a student loan, and other similar eligibility requirements. There is no minimum enrollment requirement.

  • UTRGV Tuition Relief

  • Students who graduated from high school in or after May 2020 and students in fully online programs who are in good academic standing and enrolled by Friday December 18, 2020 for the required number of hours are eligible for the UTRGV Tuition Relief program, which is not funded through CARES Act funds. Undergraduate students are required to enroll in 12 or more hours in spring 2021, and graduate students are required to enroll in 9 or more hours in spring 2021 (combination of spring module 1 and spring module 2) and be in good academic standing. International students, medical students, students not meeting certain financial aid eligibility requirements, and Cash Grant recipients are NOT eligible for UTRGV Tuition Relief.

If I am enrolled in all online courses for Spring 2021, do I qualify for CARES cash grants or Tuition Relief?

Many courses traditionally offered on campus/in person for Spring 2021 are being offered online due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, this logistical adjustment does not affect your degree program or type. For example, if you were enrolled in a traditionally on campus/in person program during Spring 2020 but are enrolled in all online courses for your program this Fall, your program is not considered “fully online” and you do indeed qualify for CARES cash grants.

Students enrolled in any of the following fully online programs DO NOT qualify for CARES cash grants but may qualify for Tuition Relief:

Can this be combined with other offers (example: Graduate Dean’s Scholarship)?

No, but if you have eligibility questions, please check with the following offices for clarification:

How will the UTRGV Tuition Relief for Spring 2021 be determined and paid?

Eligible undergraduate and graduate students (see “who is eligible”) who enroll for the required number of hours can receive up to $250 applied toward tuition (not fees) in Spring 2021, after current Federal and State aid (like Pell Grant and Texas Grant), scholarships, and other gift aid are applied. Any remaining tuition balance not covered by the above programs can be covered by UTRGV Tuition Relief, up to $250 in Spring 2021. Tuition relief will post directly on the student’s account 10 days before the first class day of the Spring 2021 term.

When will I receive the awards?

UTRGV Tuition Relief – Students eligible for tuition relief will first need to accept the award, and then the award will appear directly on your student bill.

For the UTRGV Tuition Relief, what if I need less than the required number of hours to graduate in Spring 2021?

No, the maximum tuition relief award for Spring 2021 is $250.

Do hours in graduate certificate programs count towards the required number of hours for UTRGV Tuition Relief?

Yes, enrollment in courses towards graduate certificate programs will be counted towards the enrollment requirement.

How is UTRGV able to do this?

Your ability to continue your education during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is of utmost importance to UTRGV. Campus operations have not yet returned to “normal” and continue to be disrupted due to the pandemic, which impacts you as students. For Spring 2021, there will be significant changes to the delivery of courses due to the ongoing pandemic. We have been continually assessing the impact of ongoing disruptions to campus operations and the significant changes to delivery of instruction and have developed plans to assist you through these disruptions and changes. The Spring Relief Package is a result of this continuing assessment process. UTRGV is committed to helping you address the ongoing disruptions and changes, and financially assist you so you can continue to make progress towards your degree.

What happens if I miss the December 4th deadline?

If you miss the December 4th deadline, you still have until December 18th to enroll and receive the first $250 of the $500 Spring Relief Cash grants before classes start if eligible. If you enroll by December 4th, you will receive the first $250 of the $500 Spring Relief Cash grant by the end of December if eligible.
